Make Drum Beats Come Alive Easily | Good Drum Tip

by Jack Leavitt
In order to develop a great sound and provide others with great music you have to make drum beats before anything else. This will define the pace, the tone and the emotion behind any song out there today. It all starts with understanding the drum kit itself and getting a hold of the basic knowledge. It doesn't matter if you're using an online drum maker to make drum beats or a live drum kit.

Your core drums are the; bass drum, hi-hat, and snare. When you look at all the sounds out there 90% of them will be made with either of these options. The best thing you can do is play around with them and figure out what kind of sounds they make. Don't be afraid to figure out what the sounds make you feel, and how they punctuate a piece of music.

Today I want to tell you about how you can make drum beats with an online system. If you use a live kit you have to have it in front of you and learn about the rhythm. When you make drum beats online it's easy to get it right, even if you're just a beginner. So the information below is all about the basics of the online system.

Let's assume you already programmed your basic drum loop. This can be done by downloading one, taking advantage of samples, or grabbing some raw live audio from the computer or drum machine. One thing to understand is that some of these are easier than others. In the beginning though I recommend using a sample or a download.

One of your main goals is to inject style into your drum track and bring forth that texture and originality. When you have your first loop you can begin chopping and editing it. Here you will be looking for the sections you want to use, so be sure to have some blank tracks ready. It will give you the room you need to drag and drop great beats.

Then you will want to separate the percussion sounds. Keep in mind they don't have to be single hi-hat hits, because any percussion sound is great. I can tell you though that small samples are extremely beneficial when you make a new sound. Once you have your sound it will be time to create a loop. Make sure it's around 4 to 8 bars in length. After this step has been completed it's time to make drum beats all by yourself!

Okay, so now you have this loop and it's time to lay it over the original sounds. Congratulations, you have just learned the basics of making drum beats! Over time you will be able to create a loop from scratch by using software. The end result is you will own original drum beats and can release them to the world!

During this process it's possible that you need to weed out any errors in the final sequence when you make drum beats. The best suggestion I can give you here is doing a compression or try to cut some low frequencies. This can be done by using a high pass filter.
