Use a large drum cover in your bass drum instead of a pillow

Use a large drum cover in your bass drum instead of a pillow. That way you'll have it to cover your drums if you need it and it will come out of a hole a lot better (if you have a hole in your drumhead). It will also allow you more muffling flexibility than a pillow on the inside of the drum due to the fact it can be arranged to touch both heads.
